Getting in and getting connected
- Airport: Kigali International (KGL) is compact and close to the city — around 12 minutes to Kacyiru. Immigration is quick, and a visa on arrival is available to many nationalities (check your specifics before you fly).
- SIM & data: Grab an MTN or Airtel SIM at the airport or in town; data is cheap and coverage is strong. Mobile Money (MoMo) is used everywhere — for taxis, shops and even paying your host.
- Power & water: Reliable, but pack a universal adapter (Type C/J). Serviced apartments with backup power keep you working through any outage.
Getting around
- Moto-taxis are the fastest way across town — hail one or book via the Move or Yego Moto apps.
- Ride-hailing: Yego Cabs and VW Move give you metered, app-based cars for meetings and evenings out.
- Traffic is light by regional standards, but leave a buffer around the CBD at rush hour.
Where to work
A good base matters more than a hotel lobby. Look for:

- The Kigali Convention Centre and Kigali Heights host most major conferences and have cafés and restaurants built in.
- BK Arena covers big events and shows.
- For downtime, the Kimihurura restaurant strip is minutes away, and a weekend trip to Nyungwe or Volcanoes National Park is very doable.
Practical tip: book accommodation with self check-in so a late flight never means a locked door — and confirm airport pickup in advance so your first ride is sorted.
